After teaching the English language in primary schools and in the seminary for more than eighteen years, I have discovered that there is a major problem among students, and even teachers, in using the English language effectively in communication. Lack of sufficient knowledge of English has also caused many students to perform poorly in other subjects. English is a basic subject for learning all other subjects. If a student does not know English well, it becomes difficult for him or her to manage other subjects successfully. This book is intended to help both students and teachers become competent in the English language. Its aim is to provide students and teachers with knowledge of grammar, especially parts of speech, writing skills (such as letter writing and essay writing), phonology, speaking and reading skills, literature, and semantics. For those who want to master English grammar, this book will be of great help. The book also contains many exercises that enable students to test how well they have understood what they have studied in the English language. In addition, it serves as a good reference for students preparing for the Certificate of Secondary Education Examination (CSEE), the Advanced Certificate of Secondary Education Examination (ACSEE), and even for those studying in colleges. At the end of the book, I have included questions for both Ordinary Level and Advanced Level students, purposely designed to test whether they have understood what they have learned. Many of the topics taught at Ordinary and Advanced levels are covered in this book; therefore, students will be able to solve these questions without difficulty. It is my hope that the knowledge provided in this book will be very helpful to both students and teachers of English, enabling them to master and improve their English and ultimately become experts in this language.
